About Wick & Fandom

For the love of stories, screen obsessions, and scents that deserve their own fan club.

Some people finish a book, watch the credits roll, or reach the end of a television series and simply move on with their lives.

Fascinating. Couldn't be me.

Some of us develop emotional attachments to fictional characters, rewatch our favourite scenes until we can recite them word for word, mourn fictional deaths as though we've personally lost a loved one, and spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about people who don't actually exist. And don't even get us started on the fictional men.

Vampires? Yes.
Werewolves? Absolutely.
Morally grey fae princes? Don't threaten us with a good time.
Brooding detectives, supernatural heartthrobs, fantasy heroes, and that one character from a television series we watched years ago and still haven't recovered from? Bring. Them. On.

So, naturally, I decided to turn all that obsession into something you can actually take home.

Welcome to Wick & Fandom, where your favourite fictional worlds meet your favourite fragrances.

Because if we can't live in those worlds, we can at least make our homes smell like them.

Every good story deserves a plot twist

For a while, Wick & Fandom went on an unexpected hiatus after eight years of creating and making candles for the bookish and fandom community in South Africa.

After spending 20 years chasing what I believed was my dream job, I stepped away from candle-making to pursue that chapter of my life. I thought I'd finally reached the happily-ever-after.

Spoiler alert: the plot had other ideas.

It turns out that sometimes the dream you've spent years chasing isn't quite the dream you thought it would be. And sometimes, losing your way a little is exactly what helps you find your way back to the things that make you genuinely happy.

So, after 18 months away, I'm returning to candle-making and the creative little universe that I love.

Alongside the candles, I'm continuing my studies in English and Theory of Literature, working towards completing the credits I need to apply for my Honours degree, and studying towards a qualification to teach English as a foreign language.

Because apparently, my life needed more plotlines.

It's been a journey of unexpected twists, lessons learned, and figuring out what I want my next chapter to look like. But one thing has become clear: creating things I love, sharing that creativity with others, and building Wick & Fandom are all part of the story I want to keep writing.

The hiatus is over. The wax is warming. And, darling, I'm back for another season.

The story behind the wick

I'm the creative mind behind Wick & Fandom: a candle maker, a lifelong lover of stories, and a person who has never been particularly good at having just one interest at a time.

Books have always held a special place in my heart, from fantastical worlds and sweeping romances to paranormal adventures and characters who make questionable decisions for very attractive reasons.

But my love for storytelling doesn't end at the final page. I'm equally passionate about film and television, the characters who stay with us long after the screen goes dark, and the fictional universes we revisit because apparently, once simply wasn't enough.

And somewhere in the middle of all that bookish, cinematic, occasionally unhinged enthusiasm, I found candle-making.

The result? Wick & Fandom: a place where fragrance, imagination, and fandom collide.

I create candles inspired by the books, films, television shows, characters, and fictional worlds we love. Think of them as little sensory love letters to the stories that make us laugh, swoon, scream into our pillows, and occasionally question our taste in fictional partners.

It's not just about making a candle that smells wonderful. It's about capturing a feeling, a memory, a character, or the atmosphere of a world you'd happily disappear into for a few hours.

And if a particular fragrance happens to remind you of your favourite brooding vampire? Well, that's between you and the candle.

Made for people who get it

Wick & Fandom is for the reader who says, "Just one more chapter" at midnight.

For the film lover who has watched the same favourite movie seventeen times and would happily make it eighteen.

For the television fan who still thinks about a particular character years after the series ended.

For the person who has an entire fictional family living rent-free in their head.

And for anyone who believes that a familiar scent can transport you somewhere else entirely.

It's for the fandom enthusiasts, the romantics, the supernatural lovers, the collectors, the nostalgic souls, and everyone who has ever wished they could bottle a little piece of their favourite fictional world.

Here, your obsessions are welcome. Your fictional crushes are understood. And nobody needs to explain why they need a candle inspired by a character who has approximately three lines of dialogue but an absolutely devastating jawline.

We're among friends.

Your next obsession is just a flame away

Whether you're looking for a candle inspired by a beloved book, your favourite film, a television series you can't stop rewatching, or a fictional character who has taken up permanent residence in your brain, I'm so glad you're here.

Have a browse, explore the collections, find a fragrance that speaks to your fandom, and bring a little piece of your favourite fictional world into your own. And if there's a candle you've been missing, a scent you'd love to see return, or a book, film, or television character you'd love me to create something for, I'd love to hear from you. Your suggestions might just inspire a future favourite.

Thank you for supporting Wick & Fandom, for being part of this next chapter, and for sharing in the wonderfully weird, creative, story-filled world that makes this little business so special.

The stories may be fictional. The love is real. And the candles? They're very much back.

With love, creativity, and a little fandom magic,

Hayley

P.S. If you light a candle, start a favourite film, open a book, and suddenly feel like the main character in your own story, then I reckon we're doing something right.
